SOUL VOICES!

I couldn't be more proud to be manager of this talented group on campus. I am so inspired by every individual in the group and it was an honor to spend my 3rd semester with them.

DJ Fresh Direct

Dylan McDougle aka "DJ Fresh Direct" is one of the few exceptions of students who leave college and make a name for themselves. Dylan attended Purchase Fall 09 undeclared with hopes of being in the Music Production program. After leaving shortly in Winter 09, he was determined to pursue his goal of becoming an established DJ and producer.

Dylan already had his feet wet in the music scene of NYC. He started to DJ for parties and clubs as a Junior in high school. He became inspired when coming across Mark Ronson, a famous producer and wanted to learn more about production. His latest and most impressive project is his mixing and production for hip hop artist, Zak! Dylan is always keeping his fans up to date with performances and exciting news on his twitter and facebook.

Kristen Volpone

A literature major here at Purchase, you would never believe the hidden talents this fascinating student posses! She chose Lit because it came natural to her. However, her real dream is in jewelry design. Kristen got started making jewelry as a youngster, but other interests such as drumming and working with watercolors quickly became a distraction. She picked up jewelry design again freshman year of college and attended Jewelry Comprehension summer after her sophomore year. She has recently been offered an amazing opportunity to display her jewelry in the store front of free people where buyers will test her jewelry designs to potentially sell to the company on a larger scale. Kristen plans on attending FIT after graduating Purchase to study Jewelry Design. Check out some of her work!

Junior Photo Show

Colleen Logan- Junior Photo Major

November 10th was the Junior photo show  featuring some of Purchases most talented students! Walking through the Visual Arts hall, I was overwhelmed by "eye candy" at every angle. The mood was set with incredible visuals, great friends, delicious food, and live music performed by students in the Music Conservatory. If you didn't come out, you missed one hell of a time! The exhibit will be up not too much longer, and I highly recommend you take a little visit!

Katrina Rae Cunningham

Katrina Cunningham is one of the most diversely talented students I have met on this campus. She has an ignited passion for the arts and amazes me with her constant desire to learn more and more about herself and surroundings. Expression and creativity are constantly pouring out of her, there is never a dull moment when around this shining talent.

Dance has been her passion since she was three years old and is now a Dance Conservatory student at Purchase with a focus in Modern. Katrina is acknowledged as an adopted dancer, being awarded a large scholarship from Shirley Durst.

“My relationship to dance has been very intimate, and abusive in some ways,” she says, “but at this point, the love has translated itself simply… I like to move and make moves.”

She is developing as a choreographer and will be sharing her work, “Burdon/Burgeon,” and her dancing on the 25th and 26th of February in the Dance Theater Lab at Purchase College. Amongst her many other passions, she describes herself as a spoken-word artist, emcee, and singer/song writer. She can be found on Quincyvidal.bandcamp.com, under the single, “I See You,” as well as the debut of her first EP, Quickly Spoken Songs, in collaboration with the musical majesty of Still Weavins. She is also a photographer with a focus in portraiture and dance photography. Ultimately, she is interested in building a world with her work where the right brain is allowed to chew on the left and the Love Supreme is law. “Everyone is invited. Bring your dancing shoes.”

Le'Asha Julius

Purchase student, Second Nature, Mokaad,Le'Asha Julius

Le’Asha Julius was born in Washington D.C  and raised in the metropolitan area. She got accepted into Washington D.C’s prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts where she received the Ruby Dee award for Best Actress, 1st place in the local Theater Links Competition, 1st place in the Kennedy Center’s August Wilson Monologue Competition, and placed in the top 5 in The Horowitz Competition for her original play Repentance. Her talent allowed her to travel to Morocco, Senegal, and Costa Rica where she performed for underprivileged families and AIDS orphans. She was also cast in a mini web series Orange Juice in Bishops Garden where she was featured in 3 seasons. Le’Asha later graduated and went on to continue her acting training at SUNY Purchase College. During her sophomore year she decided to take a stab at another of her passions, music. She started a 7 piece funk/soul band, Second Nature, and later joined another funk band, Mokaad. In the summer between her sophomore and junior year she teamed up with another Purchase actor, Caleb Eberhardt, and created a new hip hop/ alternative duo, Quincy Vidal. Now juggling 3 bands and the acting conservatory.

It blows my mind how much talent one woman can posses. Keepin it real, and keepin it funky. Check out some of her work!
